One difference from WhatsApp is worth spelling out: WhatsApp was unblocked in late 2024, but Viber was not — it's still on the block list. This decides "what can be fixed": since the block is judged by network / exit IP (not a US-sanctions IP geo-block, and not a company pulling out of Iran), a stable exit that reads as non-Iranian and resists DPI probing usually gets Viber to reconnect and work fully.
Unlike Patreon: Viber has no "payment boundary" — restoring access restores all functionality
This is worth stating honestly because it's good news: Viber is a purely network-filtered messaging app; it does not involve the "Iranian bank cards blocked by sanctions" payment problem. Hands-on: steps to reliably use Viber in Iran with a system-level client
