Почему Tor не подключается в Иране и чем его заменить для доступа: быстрая альтернатива (VLESS+Reality)

Concept: Tor's default connection is blocked in Iran, bridges can be bulk-enumerated, three hops are slow; VLESS+Reality is single-hop, mimics real HTTPS, and needs no public bridge list

Why Tor keeps failing to connect in Iran

Tor's default connection (the public relay list) has been blocked in Iran for years; to connect at all you need a bridge. But obfs4 bridges stopped working in Iran long ago (largely dead since around 2023), and Snowflake—now the most-used method in Iran—is increasingly detected and throttled too. The root cause is simple: a bridge address must be distributable to users, and anything ordinary users can obtain, the censor can harvest in bulk and block one by one. Add Tor's inherently slow three-hop design and many people get stuck either "connected but unusably slow" or "won't connect at all."

What Tor is genuinely good at (the honest part)

Don't treat Tor as the enemy. Tor's real value is anonymity—multi-hop relaying means no single node knows "who is accessing what"; it's free, open source, and during blackouts Snowflake can sometimes still squeeze a channel through. So when you truly need anonymity (journalists, activists, sensitive research), Tor is irreplaceable. What it is not good at is fast, stable everyday access—for streaming, calls, or browsing, three-hop latency plus blocked bridges make the experience poor.

Why Iran can bulk-block Tor bridges

The key mechanism: for a bridge to reach users it must be distributable; anything ordinary users can get, the censor can bulk-harvest and enumerate to block. That's exactly how obfs4 died in Iran. Snowflake relies on a large pool of volunteer ephemeral proxies whose addresses are harder to exhaust, so it lasts longer—but it's being targeted too (the Tor Project built newer transports like Conjure to stay ahead of the censor). When what you need is a stable long-lived connection, streaming, meetings, everyday access—or you find "Tor connects but is too slow to use"—it's time for a channel that is both fast and not dependent on a public bridge list.

The better fit for access: VLESS + Reality

The fundamental difference: Reality does not rely on an enumerable public bridge list. Your node is yours alone, and Reality disguises it as a genuine TLS handshake to a real, popular public website. The censor has no "blockable list" of addresses, and active probing only ever gets a real certificate and real-site behavior—no proxy signature to flag. Being single-hop, it's far faster than Tor's three hops, which suits streaming, calls, and daily use. Honestly stated: Reality is built for fast, stealthy access and does not provide Tor-style anonymity. The two can actually be stacked—Tor over VLESS: use Reality to get out of the country, then run Tor on top, getting both "it connects" and "anonymity." No method is guaranteed forever; a nationwide blackout severs both.

How to migrate from Tor (or stack it): steps

  1. Decide your goal: need anonymity → keep Tor; need fast stable access → make VLESS+Reality your primary; need both → use the stack below.
  2. Copy your VLESS+Reality subscription link (from your service or your own node).
  3. Install a client: Shadowrocket on iOS, sing-box or v2rayN on Android / desktop; import the subscription URL.
  4. Update the subscription and run a latency test; pick a low-latency, low-loss node. In Rule mode let banking and government sites go direct, tunneling only blocked services.
  5. When you need anonymity, use Tor over VLESS: connect the Reality node first, then open Tor Browser on top—Reality is the "it connects" foundation, Tor adds the anonymity layer.

Частые вопросы

Is Tor completely blocked in Iran?
Tor's default connection (public relays) has been blocked in Iran for years; you need a bridge to connect. But obfs4 bridges stopped working in Iran long ago, and Snowflake—now the most-used method—is increasingly detected and throttled. So whether it connects at all is unstable.
Tor or VLESS+Reality—which is better?
Different goals. Tor is built for anonymity (multi-hop hides who you are) but in Iran needs bridges, is slow, and is often blocked. VLESS+Reality is built for fast stealthy access (single-hop, mimics real HTTPS, no public bridge list), far faster but without Tor's anonymity. Use Tor for anonymity, Reality for fast daily access—and you can stack them.
Why is Reality harder to block than Tor bridges?
Because Tor bridge addresses are distributable/enumerable—the censor can bulk-harvest the whole list and block them one by one (that's how obfs4 died in Iran). A Reality node is yours alone, disguised as HTTPS to a real major site, with no public list to bulk-block.
Can I use Tor and VLESS at the same time?
Yes—it's called Tor over VLESS: use VLESS+Reality to get out of the country (solving "it connects"), then run Tor on top (getting anonymity). Ideal when you need both a stable connection and anonymity.
