Почему Psiphon тормозит и чем его заменить: быстрая альтернатива (VLESS+Reality)

Why Psiphon keeps getting slower in Iran

Psiphon is a free, non-profit tool that survives censorship by using shared bandwidth and automatically switching between protocols. Precisely because it is free with an enormous user base, its bandwidth is shared by millions of people — so it's naturally congested and slow at peak times. On top of that, over the years Iran's DPI has grown familiar with Psiphon's traffic signature and actively throttles or disrupts it, which is why you get "it connects but it's very slow" and "web pages barely load, video stalls." This usually isn't a problem with your device — it's the combination of a free shared channel plus targeted throttling.

Psiphon's strengths (stated honestly)

Credit where it's due: Psiphon is completely free, needs no signup, works out of the box, and is open source. During a nationwide blackout or wide-scale blocking in Iran — when you can't even fetch a subscription link — its multi-protocol auto-probing can sometimes still squeeze out a channel. That is its real value as an emergency lifeline. So don't treat it as the enemy; understand its role: low barrier, good for emergencies, but not built for speed or long-term stability.

When you should move off Psiphon

If you only occasionally look things up or send messages, Psiphon is fine. But when you need stable video, large downloads, meetings, or gaming, or you notice "Psiphon is getting slower and keeps dropping," it's time to switch to a dedicated channel that isn't dragged down by sharing. The key point in Iran: the channel itself must be hard for DPI to auto-detect, otherwise switching just gets you throttled again.

The faster alternative: VLESS + Reality

VLESS is a lean transport protocol and Reality is its TLS camouflage layer, disguising your traffic as an ordinary HTTPS visit to a real public website. Compared with Psiphon's shared bandwidth, VLESS+Reality uses a dedicated node that is faster and more stable; compared with fixed-signature protocols, it's harder for DPI to fingerprint and throttle. The trade-off is that it isn't zero-barrier like Psiphon — you need a subscription and a client (sing-box / v2rayN / Shadowrocket, etc.). And to be honest: no approach can guarantee it always works — exit-IP reputation, SNI, and keys still matter, and during a regional blackout no cross-border channel connects at all.

How to migrate from Psiphon: step by step

  1. Copy your subscription link from the dashboard (prefer VLESS+Reality nodes in Iran).
  2. Install a mature client: Shadowrocket on iOS, sing-box or v2rayN on Android / desktop, and import the subscription URL (don't add a single node by hand).
  3. Update the subscription, run a latency test, and enable a low-latency node.
  4. Use Rule mode: send Iranian bank / government apps direct (they reject foreign IPs) and route only blocked services through the tunnel.
  5. Keep Psiphon as a blackout / emergency backup — when you can't even fetch a subscription link, use it for a temporary lifeline.

Частые вопросы

Why is Psiphon so slow?
Psiphon is free with a huge user base, so its bandwidth is shared by millions and is naturally congested at peak times; on top of that Iran's DPI increasingly recognizes its traffic and throttles it, so it often "connects but crawls." It's not your device — it's a free shared channel plus targeted throttling.
Which is better, Psiphon or VLESS+Reality?
They have different roles. Psiphon is free, zero-barrier, and good for blackout emergencies, but its shared bandwidth is slow and easily throttled. VLESS+Reality uses a dedicated node that's faster and more stable and harder for DPI to detect, but it needs a subscription and a client. Use VLESS+Reality as your primary for speed and keep Psiphon for emergencies — not either/or.
Should I keep Psiphon after switching to VLESS?
Yes, keep it. During a nationwide blackout in Iran, when you can't even fetch a subscription link, Psiphon's multi-protocol auto-probing can sometimes still squeeze out an emergency channel. Treat it as a blackout backup, not your daily primary.
Is Psiphon safe and legal in Iran?
This is a technical explainer and not legal advice. Please learn and follow your local laws and third-party service terms; responsibility for safe and lawful use of any circumvention tool rests with the user.
