Why Notion doesn't open in Russia

Opening notion.so in Russia typically means it won't load, login is refused, or you're told the workspace has been terminated. This is not a device or network fault: Notion, for U.S. sanctions compliance, stopped serving users located in Russia as of September 9, 2024 — it began declining Russian bank cards back in 2022, and from February 2024 it no longer worked in Russia without a VPN. Like Claude's regional restriction in Russia, this is a service-side compliance limit, not an RKN national-firewall block.

The most important honest boundary: switching IP ≠ recovering a terminated workspace

Notion differs from ChatGPT / Gemini in one way: it doesn't just block access — it actively “terminates” workspaces with Russian billing information. Notion's own wording: “if any billing information connected with the workspace is currently or was previously associated with Russia, the workspace will be terminated.” That creates a hard boundary: a clean exit IP helps you restore the “reaching notion.so” half, but if your workspace was already terminated over a Russian billing association, switching IP will not bring it back. Step-by-step

Copy your subscription link from the personal center or a digital card, import it by URL or QR into the sing-box client, and update the nodes.
Pick a node with low latency and healthy status whose exit is in a supported country; keep the same exit region for the whole session and don't switch countries midway — region jumps intensify risk-control.
Open notion.so in the browser and sign in; if you use the desktop / mobile app, make sure those apps' sync traffic also goes through the proxy (otherwise the web works but the app is stuck offline).
