آیا VPN Gate هنوز در روسیه کار میکند؟ چرا رلههای عمومیاش مسدود میشوند و جایگزین پایدارتر

What VPN Gate actually is
VPN Gate is an academic research project from Japan's University of Tsukuba. It offers a pool of free public relay servers run by volunteers, speaking OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, SSTP and more. Its relay list is fully public — anyone, censors included, can pull every server IP. And as a research project it states plainly that it logs connection packets for academic analysis; that's in its terms of use, not a rumor.
Why it often won't connect — or crawls — in Russia
The problem isn't that it's free; it's that its structure is a poor fit for a heavy-censorship network. (1) The relay IPs are a public list, so RKN and ISPs can block the whole list at once — the server that works today may be gone tomorrow. (2) The protocols are easy to fingerprint: OpenVPN / L2TP / SSTP stand out under DPI, and Russia's TSPU deep-packet-inspection boxes throttle or drop them. (3) Volunteer nodes vary wildly in speed and uptime, especially at peak. Stack those together and you get exactly why people search "vpn gate not connecting / slow."
When VPN Gate is still good enough
For casual, non-sensitive access on networks where censorship isn't aggressive — quick tests, occasional lookups — VPN Gate is free and works out of the box. But if you need a long-term, stable, DPI-resistant connection inside Russia, a public relay list plus legacy protocols is structurally mismatched, and hopping servers only buys time.
A steadier alternative: private nodes + VLESS+Reality
For an environment like Russia, a better fit is private nodes that aren't on any public list with the VLESS+Reality protocol: Reality makes the traffic look, to DPI, like an ordinary visit to a big HTTPS site rather than "obviously a VPN," and the node IPs stay private and can be rotated, so wholesale enumeration-and-blocking is far less likely. This is not a "never blocked" promise — no protocol can offer that — it just closes the structural weakness of being easy to mass-identify. To understand the mechanism first, see What is VLESS Reality.
If you decide to move off VPN Gate
- Turn off any VPN Gate / OpenVPN config still reconnecting in the background — under current DPI it keeps getting cut and just muddies troubleshooting.
- Copy your subscription link (the whole URL) from your account page or digital card.
- Pick a client that supports VLESS+Reality and import the subscription: desktop via v2rayN import, Android via the Android guide.
- Refresh the subscription, pick a node that's both low-latency and loads full pages, then connect (allow the VPN configuration on first use).
- If local banking/government apps must go direct, exclude them with per-app split tunneling.
Honest expectations
- No setup is guaranteed "always available"; the difference is how hard it is to auto-detect and block, and whether someone maintains and rotates the nodes.
- VPN Gate's free comes at a cost: public relays are easy to block, speeds are unstable, and by its terms it logs packets — not for sensitive accounts or long-term primary use.
- After moving to private nodes, if a site won't open, compare 2–3 nodes by full page-load success and then check DNS and routing rules — not just the latency number.

سؤالات متداول
- Is VPN Gate safe?
- It's an academic research project that, per its terms, logs connection packets for research, and its relays are volunteer-run. Fine for casual, non-sensitive access, but not recommended for sensitive accounts or long-term primary use.
- Why won't VPN Gate connect in Russia?
- Its relay IPs are a public list that RKN/ISPs can block wholesale, and OpenVPN/L2TP/SSTP are easy to fingerprint, so Russia's TSPU deep-packet inspection throttles or drops them. Switching servers usually only helps briefly.
- VPN Gate is totally free — what's the catch?
- The catch is stability and privacy: public relays are easily blocked, volunteer nodes are unstable in speed and uptime, and it logs packets by policy. Free is fine to try, not to depend on long-term under heavy censorship.
- What should I use instead of VPN Gate in Russia?
- A better fit is private nodes that aren't on a public list, running VLESS+Reality: the traffic looks like ordinary HTTPS to DPI, and node IPs can be rotated and are harder to enumerate and block wholesale. This lowers the odds of being detected-and-blocked; it's not a never-blocked promise.
