First, plainly: what happened to LinkedIn in Russia

Many people's real experience is: the LinkedIn website won't open, the app was pulled from the Russian stores long ago, messages won't load. This isn't your phone. In November 2016, Russia's regulator RKN formally blocked LinkedIn under the personal-data-localization law (which requires Russian citizens' personal data to be stored on servers inside Russia) — LinkedIn refused to move its data into Russia and became the first major Western platform blocked wholesale in Russia.
