اگر فیس‌بوک در روسیه باز نمی‌شود چه کنیم: توضیح صادقانه (از مارس ۲۰۲۲ مسدود شده) و راه پایدارتر برای دسترسی (کلاینت VLESS+Reality)

First, plainly: what happened to Facebook in Russia

Many people's real experience is: the Facebook website won't open, the app just spins, Messenger won't send. This isn't your phone. In March 2022, Russia's regulator RKN formally blocked Facebook (a court later designated its parent company Meta as "extremist" — but note WhatsApp is not part of that block). So the situation is straightforward: in Russia, Facebook no longer connects by default, and you need a channel that bypasses the block to reach the website, app, and Messenger normally.

Why free VPN extensions / proxies often aren't stable enough

Facing a block, many people first install a free VPN browser extension or find a free proxy. It holds up for a while, but in Russia the reality is: first, free extensions / proxies use public shared IP ranges that are easy to block wholesale — hence "works today, gone in a couple of days"; second, a plain proxy just forwards traffic with no handshake camouflage, so under ever-upgrading DPI it's easy to detect and throttle; third, a browser extension only protects the browser, while your Facebook mobile app, Messenger, and other apps still run over the real network; fourth, on privacy, a free extension can see all the traffic in your browser, with a track record of logging / reselling.

A key point: for Facebook to be stable, cover the whole device

Facebook today isn't just the website: there's the mobile app, Messenger, and login / share embedded in other apps. For it to be stable overall, the channel should ideally be system-level, dedicated, and not targeted by DPI — covering Facebook's website and app, not just one extension in the browser. As a bonus: if you also use Instagram, Telegram, or the browser, a system-level solution covers them all at once, with no per-app setup.

The more reliable alternative: a VLESS + Reality client

VLESS is a lean transport protocol, and Reality is its TLS camouflage layer, disguising your traffic as ordinary HTTPS to a real public website. Running VLESS+Reality with a real client (sing-box / v2rayN / Shadowrocket) is system-level: Facebook's website, app, and Messenger, Instagram, and the browser all go through the tunnel; a dedicated node is more stable and harder to block wholesale; and compared with a free proxy whose entry points are public, it's harder for DPI to auto-fingerprint. The cost is that you need a subscription and a client. To be honest too: no solution guarantees it always works — exit-IP reputation, SNI, and keys still matter; and during a regional blackout no cross-border channel connects, so Facebook won't either.

How to access Facebook reliably in Russia: concrete steps

  1. Copy your subscription link from the dashboard (prefer VLESS+Reality nodes for the Russia environment).
  2. Install a mature client: Shadowrocket on iOS, sing-box or v2rayN on Android / desktop, and import the subscription URL (don't add single nodes by hand).
  3. Update the subscription and run a latency test; prefer nodes with low latency and stability.
  4. Use Rule mode: route Russian banking / government (Gosuslugi) apps direct (they reject foreign IPs), and route Facebook and Messenger through the tunnel.
  5. Open the Facebook website / app and Messenger to verify; if it still won't open, switch nodes and test again.

Honest expectations

سؤالات متداول

Is Facebook blocked in Russia?
Yes. In March 2022 RKN formally blocked Facebook, and a court later designated its parent company Meta as "extremist" (WhatsApp is not part of that block). So Facebook doesn't connect by default in Russia and needs a cross-border channel that bypasses the block. The more reliable move is a system-level client running VLESS+Reality that routes the whole device (Facebook web / app / Messenger included) through a dedicated tunnel that's hard for DPI to detect.
Can a free VPN extension access Facebook long-term?
Often not. Free extensions / proxies use public shared IPs that are easy to block wholesale; a plain proxy has no handshake camouflage, so under upgrading DPI it's easy to detect and throttle — hence "hit or miss"; and an extension only protects the browser, not the Facebook mobile app or Messenger. For long-term stability that also covers the app and other platforms, a system-level VLESS+Reality is more reliable.
Why does the website open but the Facebook / Messenger app won't connect?
Because a browser extension only affects the browser, while the mobile app runs over the real network. For the app to be stable too, the channel must be system-level — covering the whole device's traffic. Running VLESS+Reality with a system-level client sends the website, app, and Messenger all through the same tunnel.
After switching to a VLESS client, do Instagram and Telegram go through it too?
Yes. A system-level client covers the whole device's traffic — Facebook (web + app + Messenger), Instagram, Telegram, and the browser all go through the same tunnel, with no per-app proxy setup. That's why it's less hassle than relying on a browser extension.
