How to Unblock GoDaddy Email: Access Your Webmail and Fix Blocked Connections
Updated
You go to sign in to your GoDaddy email and nothing happens — the webmail page at email.godaddy.com won't load, your login is rejected with a security warning, or your mail app (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird) sits forever on “connecting” and never sends or receives. In most cases your password is fine and your mailbox is active; the connection between your device and GoDaddy's mail servers is being blocked somewhere along the way — by a restrictive Wi-Fi network, your internet provider, a country-level filter, or GoDaddy's own security throttling your current IP address.
What's actually blocking your email — and how to fix it
“Blocked” GoDaddy email almost always comes down to one of four causes, and the fix depends on which one you have:
- Network or firewall filter — a school, office, hotel, or public Wi-Fi that blocks webmail domains or the mail ports (993, 465, 587).
- Country-level or ISP censorship — some networks block or throttle third-party webmail entirely.
- GoDaddy has flagged your IP address — too many failed logins, a shared/blacklisted IP, or unusual activity can get your current address temporarily blocked.
- An actual account problem — wrong password, expired plan, or a suspended mailbox.
A VPN solves the first three: it gives your device a fresh, clean IP address in a location where the mail servers are reachable, and it tunnels every port through an encrypted connection so a filtering network can't see (or block) that you're reaching GoDaddy mail. It will not fix a wrong password or a suspended account — so it's worth ruling those out first. The steps below walk through both the diagnosis and the fix. Step-by-step: unblock your GoDaddy email
- Confirm it's a block, not an outage or bad password. Check GoDaddy's status page and try a completely different network — switching your phone to mobile data is the fastest test. If the email loads fine on mobile data but not on your Wi-Fi, the block is on your network, and a VPN will fix it.
- Identify which GoDaddy email you use. Modern Professional Email signs in at email.godaddy.com; older Workspace Email uses email.secureserver.net; a GoDaddy-provisioned Microsoft 365 mailbox signs in at outlook.office.com. Note which one applies to you — the server settings differ.
- Connect to a VPN server. Pick a nearby server for the best speed. If your country or ISP is doing the blocking, choose a server in a location without those restrictions instead. Wait until the connection shows as fully established before continuing. Not sure which to pick? See our guide on choosing the right server location.
- Clear your browser cache and reload the webmail. Open a private/incognito window (this avoids stale cookies and cached error pages) and go to your sign-in URL from Step 2. With the VPN active, the page should now load normally.
- If you use a mail app, keep the VPN on and verify your server settings. For Professional/Workspace Email, use incoming IMAP: imap.secureserver.net, port 993, SSL/TLS and outgoing SMTP: smtpout.secureserver.net, port 465 (SSL) — or port 587 with STARTTLS if 465 is blocked. For a GoDaddy Microsoft 365 mailbox, use outlook.office365.com (IMAP 993, SMTP 587, STARTTLS). Many “won't send” problems are simply a network that blocks the outgoing SMTP port — switching between 465 and 587 while on the VPN usually clears it.
- If GoDaddy blocked your IP specifically, the VPN's new address sidesteps it. The moment you connect, you present a different IP, so a temporary lockout from failed logins or a flagged address no longer applies. If you're still refused, the issue is account-level: reset your password from a trusted device, then sign in again.
- Test both directions. Send a message to yourself and confirm it arrives, and reply to check receiving. If both work, the block is cleared — leave the VPN connected whenever you're on the network that was causing the problem.
FAQ
Is it against GoDaddy's rules to use a VPN for my own email?
No. Accessing your own mailbox over a VPN is a normal privacy measure. Occasionally, signing in from a new country triggers GoDaddy's security verification (an email or SMS code) — that's expected. Just complete the verification and, where possible, stick to one server region so you're not constantly re-verifying.

Why does GoDaddy keep blocking my IP address?
The most common triggers are repeated failed login attempts, sending patterns that look like spam, or being on a shared/blacklisted IP (common on cheap public Wi-Fi). A VPN with a clean IP avoids all three; if it keeps happening, reset your password and enable two-step verification.

A VPN doesn't fix my “550 message blocked” bounce when sending — why?
That's a different problem. A 550/blocked bounce is the recipient's server rejecting your mail on reputation grounds, not your connection being filtered. Changing your IP won't help there — you'd need to check GoDaddy's sending reputation and your domain's SPF/DKIM records. This guide covers reaching and using your mailbox, not deliverability.

Will a free VPN work?
It might load the page, but free services are often on the very shared, blacklisted IP ranges GoDaddy already flags — so you can end up more blocked, not less. A reputable VPN with clean IPs and unblocked mail ports is the reliable choice.
