اگر سیگنال در روسیه وصل نمی‌شود چه کنیم: توضیح صادقانه (در ۲۰۲۴ محدود شد) و راه پایدارتر برای ارتباط (کلاینت VLESS+Reality)

First, plainly: what happened to Signal in Russia

Many people's real experience is: Signal suddenly won't send messages, calls won't connect, it just spins. This isn't your phone. In August 2024, Russia's regulator RKN restricted Signal, citing "violations of anti-terrorism / anti-money-laundering law," and Signal became largely unreachable in Russia. So the situation is straightforward: in Russia, Signal doesn't work by default, and you need a channel that bypasses the restriction to send messages and make calls normally.

Why Signal's built-in proxy alone often isn't stable enough

Signal has built-in censorship circumvention (proxy / TLS) that can hold up for a while under a block — credit where it's due. But in Russia the reality is: first, the entry points and signatures of Signal's official proxy are public, so under ever-upgrading DPI they're easy to detect and throttle — hence "works today, gone in a couple of days"; second, it only covers the Signal app, while your Telegram, browser, and other apps still run over the real network; third, voice / video calls are real-time streams sensitive to loss and jitter, so calls drop more easily when public proxy lines are congested.

A key point: for Signal to be stable, cover the whole device

Signal has both encrypted messaging and real-time voice / video calls. For it to be stable overall, the channel should ideally be system-level, dedicated, and not targeted by DPI — covering the Signal app itself, not just some temporary proxy. As a bonus: if you also use Telegram, WhatsApp, or the browser, a system-level solution covers them all at once, with no per-app setup.

The more reliable alternative: a VLESS + Reality client

VLESS is a lean transport protocol, and Reality is its TLS camouflage layer, disguising your traffic as ordinary HTTPS to a real public website. Running VLESS+Reality with a real client (sing-box / v2rayN / Shadowrocket) is system-level: Signal's messages and calls, Telegram, and the browser all go through the tunnel; a dedicated node is more stable with lower loss; and compared with a plain proxy whose entry points are public, it's harder for DPI to auto-fingerprint. The cost is that you need a subscription and a client. To be honest too: no solution guarantees it always works — exit-IP reputation, SNI, and keys still matter; and during a regional blackout no cross-border channel connects, so Signal won't either. You can also keep Signal's built-in proxy as an emergency backup — the two don't conflict.

How to use Signal reliably in Russia: concrete steps

  1. Copy your subscription link from the dashboard (prefer VLESS+Reality nodes for the Russia environment).
  2. Install a mature client: Shadowrocket on iOS, sing-box or v2rayN on Android / desktop, and import the subscription URL (don't add single nodes by hand).
  3. Update the subscription and run a latency test; prefer nodes with low latency and low loss (calls are most sensitive to loss).
  4. Use Rule mode: route Russian banking / government (Gosuslugi) apps direct (they reject foreign IPs), and route Signal and its calls through the tunnel.
  5. Open Signal, send/receive a message and place a test call to verify; if it's still choppy, switch nodes and test again.

Honest expectations

Follow local law and third-party terms of service; this is a technical tutorial only, security and compliance are the user's responsibility, and we cannot guarantee the long-term availability of third-party services (including Signal).

سؤالات متداول

Is Signal blocked in Russia?
In August 2024 RKN restricted Signal, citing violations of anti-terrorism / anti-money-laundering law, and since then Signal has been largely unreachable in Russia. So it doesn't work by default and needs a cross-border channel that bypasses the restriction. The more reliable move is a system-level client running VLESS+Reality that routes the whole device (Signal messages and calls included) through a dedicated tunnel that's hard for DPI to detect.
Doesn't Signal's built-in proxy bypass the block?
It holds up for a while and is worth leaving on as a backup. But its entry points and signatures are public, so under ever-upgrading DPI they're easy to detect and throttle — hence "hit or miss"; and it only covers the Signal app. For long-term stability that also covers Telegram / the browser, a system-level VLESS+Reality is more reliable — the two don't conflict and you can keep both.
Why can Signal send messages but voice calls won't connect?
Voice is a real-time stream sensitive to loss / jitter; when public proxy lines are congested, calls are the first to break. For stable calls the channel should be system-level, dedicated, and not targeted by DPI — not a temporary proxy. Switching to a dedicated VLESS+Reality node and picking a low-loss line usually helps noticeably.
After switching to a VLESS client, do Telegram and WhatsApp go through it too?
Yes. A system-level client covers the whole device's traffic — Signal (calls included), Telegram, WhatsApp, and the browser all go through the same tunnel, with no per-app proxy setup. That's why it's less hassle than relying on a single app's built-in proxy.
